EMILY BEAULIEU M.Ed., Registered Psychologist

emily beauliu, therapist, psychologist, online therapy, counselling, trauma, therapy, healing, teen

I became a therapist partly due to the influence of two school counsellors who made a positive difference in my life. I started my BSc in Neuroscience to explore my interest in a variety of subjects including psychology, biology, and physics. I wanted a future career where I would be engaged in lifelong learning and working with people so I decided to focus on psychology. I chose Counselling Psychology due to my interest in positive psychology and desire to emphasize strengths in others.

I focus on understanding my clients’ perspectives, knowledge, and strengths. Together we apply those to reach their therapy goals. Clients are encouraged to develop ideas for increasing positive feelings directly by doing more of what is enjoyable and valued. I typically use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Prior to completing my Masters of Education, I volunteered and trained volunteers at the Distress Centre in Calgary. I completed practica at Clinical Services at the University of Alberta, where I provided individual counselling, and at the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton, where I participated in the initial refleQT group for queer and trans clients. I provided brief solution-focused therapy at Momentum Walk-In Counselling after graduating from my Masters program. I also complete risk assessments and provide crisis services at Access 24/7 with Alberta Health Services.
